Tips for winning Time Machine 10/30/17

The October 30, 2017 Time Machine contest features the following question:

What will the all-time box office rank for Murder On The Orient Express be on December 19th?


If you have access to an actual time machine, you can of course simply travel to the future and retrieve the answer.  If not, you should familiarize yourself with and, specificallythis chart—which gives you the all-time box office (worldwide gross) ranks for over 700 movies.

Q: What is the deadline for entering?
A: All entries must be in by 11:30 pm CT on December 15, 2017.

Q: When exactly will the ranking for Time Machine be considered final?
A: December 19, 2017 at precisely 11 AM CT –per BoxOfficeMojo’s All-Time Box Office chart.

Q: Do I have to hit the number exactly or can I win by just being close?
A: This isn’t the game Horse Shoes.  To win Time Machine, you must provide the exact, right answer.

Q: When will the winner(s) be revealed?
A: The winner (or winners) will be revealed here on the evening of December 19, 2017.

Q: What should an entry look like?
A: Your entry should be a one-, two-, or three-digit number.  For example, if you think the movie will be ranked 99th all-time on December 19th, enter the number “99.”

Q: When will the next Time Machine game start
A: After the entry period ends for the Murder On The Orient Express predictions, a new Time Machine contest will start on or about December 15, 2017.

Q: What if the movie doesn’t chart at all?
A: If the movie fails to make BoxOfficeMojo’s All-Time Box Office chart, no winners will be named and the Zackpot will “roll over” to the next Time Machine contest.

Q: My time machine is in the shop (Flux Capacitor leak).  Can I borrow a friend’s?
A: Yes, our rules allow you to use another person’s time machine.  However, you must travel to the future yourself.  You cannot send someone else to the future to get the answer for you.
